9th in Four
I'm not sure what infuriates me more? Dr. KC's potential 9th hunger
strike in last 4 years or unfulfilled promises of government? It’s a shame on
all of us who are happy to hide behind the democratic shield but have not been
able to aid Dr. KC to bring about the desired change. My only desired change: “Make
government accountable for the agreements it makes.”
We are free to voice our disagreement against the prevailing laws and
order under a democratic system. So, it is Dr. KC’s right to opt for hunger
strike for as many number of times as he desires. But for the ninth time in
last 4 years, on average it is 2 times a year, is literally shameful for how we
have failed to elect a leader among 3crore population who would stop fooling
this poor man.
Dr. KC has gone to lengths to being heard but every single time
government bullies him with false assertions. Every single time the ultimatum passes,
KC opts for the fasts unto death, risks his life only to receive “So what?”
reactions from our leaders. Mathema report
agreement, 6-point agreement, 11-point agreement, this agreement, that
agreement, letting the government one more way to retract from.
I'm not saying that all the demands of Dr. KC are valid. I reckon some amendments have to be made from Dr. KC's side as well. It is not a play of stubborness. Proper negotiation is necessary. Despite this, the
determination he has shown for challenging the status-quo is praise-worthy and
that too for the sake of others is inspiring. He’s a living example in today’s
Nepal, stop waiting for the change and become the change yourself. On the other
hand, the political force has continued playing worthless tricks and has tried
to deteriorate his will-power. However, every single time he has become
stronger. But this “playing with the sentiments and unfulfilling promises”
trick has to stop now.
If the government continues viewing his demands through the lens of micro
problem, then that would be a mistake. I’m afraid of the fact that in this
struggle between Dr. KC and government one has to back down someday. Whichever political
party be in the power we don’t care. All we want is a leader who dares to take
KC as a significant, serious and determined man who is adamant for change. The negotiating
political party has to take charge of previous agreements and stop finding
excuses at the time of implementation.
Anyone of us could be in the shoe of Dr. KC in the future and the way
the government treats us with dishonesty has to be changed NOW!
